'We were kept in dark,' says family of superbug victim

The family of a woman who died from a hospital acquired infection has accusing hospital authorities of keeping them in the dark.

Cork City Coroners Court ruled today that infections called C-Diff and VRE were to blame for the death of Eileen O'Sullivan last July.

The 58-year-old was being treated for pneumonia at Cork's South Infirmary Hospital.

Her daughter Shirley Babbington said the family were never told about the superbug complications.

"I feel it's very wrong to be in the dark watching someone you love and care about so much deteriorate in front of you and you're not being told why," Ms Babbington said.

"Hopefully people will watch this and learn something from it."
