Gardaí arrest armed men in Cork

Detectives were today questioning four men suspected of trying to break into a house while armed.

Gardai in central Cork arrested one man and recovered a shotgun at a house in Mary Street during the alleged incident.

Another three men, believed to be hiding in nearby buildings and yards, were also arrested.

Other weapons were recovered in follow-up searches.

Investigating officers are trying to ascertain what the men were intending to do at the house at 5am today.

The four men - aged in their 20s and 30s - are being questioned at Anglesea Street and Bridewell garda stations in the city.

The men are being held under section 30 of The Offences Against The State Act.
