Gormley publishes plans for new battery disposal rules

Minister for Environment John Gormley has published draft regulations to implement the new EU Directive on the disposal of batteries.

The directive makes producers responsible for the financing of the collection, treatment and safe disposal of batteries.

Consumers will be able to return used batteries to the place of purchase or to other authorised collection points from September 26 this year.
