Midlands Hospital breast-cancer screening centre to shut
The breast-cancer screening centre at the Midlands Hospital in Mullingar is to close down, as part of a move towards a centralised system of cancer care services.
The Health Service Executive has released a list of more than 20 hospitals across the country which will continue to provide cancer care, while services gradually switch over to eight specific centres of excellence across the country.
The HSE also confirmed that breast cancer services at Portlaoise will remain suspended, pending the outcome of a review surrounding the misdiagnosis of at least eight women being treated for cancer.
