Labour is calling on the Government to postpone the new regulations for provisional licence holders in order to give people a chance to adjust to them.

Labour is calling on the Government to postpone the new regulations for provisional licence holders in order to give people a chance to adjust to them.

The new rules come into force on Tuesday but Labour leader Eamon Gilmore says it's a shambles.

He says the Transport Minister is undermining the new Road Safety Strategy and has left thousands of learner drivers in limbo.

Mr Gilmore says such a major change cannot be brought in with just four days notice over a bank holiday weekend and that they should be delayed by the Minister for Transport Noel Dempsey.
