Elderly hit-and-run victim dies
An elderly woman involved in a hit-and-run incident in Co Cork has died.
The 83-year-old was crossing the main street of Castlemartyr, near Midelton, when she was struck by a car at 7am.
She was rushed to Cork University Hospital with serious injuries and remained in a critical condition until she died this afternoon.
“This car was travelling in the direction of Youghal to Midleton. It failed to stop,” said a Garda spokesman.
Witnesses described the car as small and dark in colour.
Gardaí have appealed for help from anybody with any information on the incident.
Meanwhile, a 40-year-old mother and her three children are being being treated in Cork University Hospital following a collision last night.
A HSE spokesman said the woman is critical while the children – two boys aged 11 and seven and a girl, 4 – are all comfortable.
The collision occurred at Whitewell Cross on the main Whitegate to Midleton road.
