Father speaks out about plan to release loyalist killer

The father of a man murdered by loyalists nine years ago has spoken out against plans to release one of the killers.

26-year-old Damien Trainor and 34-year-old Philip Allen, a Catholic and Protestant who were life-long friends, were shot dead at a bar in Poyntzpass, Co Down in March 1998.

Their killers, Stephen McClean and Noel McCready, qualified for early release under the Good Friday Agreement, but this was revoked after a brutal attack while they were on temporary release.

The Sentence Review Commission has not recommended that McClean be freed, but Damien Trainor's father Sean, says the pair should both have to serve their full life sentences.

He says it is terrible to think McClean might be living a short distance from his home.
