Gardaí investigate suspicious death of man in Laois

Gardaí are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 55-year-old man at a house in Co Laois overnight.

The body was discovered after gardaí were called to an incident at the house in Ballybrittas just after 10.30pm.

Detectives say they are treating the death as suspicious.

A 53-year-old woman was removed from the house to Midlands Regional Hospital in Portlaoise, where her condition is not life-threatening.

The scene has also been sealed off for technical examination and a post mortem is expected to be carried out later today.
