Appeal to be heard in case of Irish man jailed in Senegal

An appeal is expected to be made tomorrow in the case a young Donegal student who has been in prison in the west African nation of Senegal for three weeks.

Nineteen-year-old Patrick Devine was arrested for alleged exposure on July 27 after dropping his trousers on a public street outside the home of a provincial governor.

The judge in the case has taken a hard line and the teenager has been in prison ever since, where he has reportedly been sharing a cell with up to 40 others.

Members of his family have travelled to Senegal in an effort to secure his release and a higher court is expected to hear an appeal in the case tomorrow.
