Drivers urged to heed road safety message this weekend
Motorists are being urged to heed road safety messages when taking to the roads this bank holiday weekend.
The Gardaí say they will be mounting their traditional crackdown on speeding on drink-driving in an effort to prevent fatalities on the roads.
They are also warning that people caught using hand-held mobile phones while driving will be given penalty points.
Meanwhile, thousands of people will also be on the move via bus, train and aeroplane this weekend, which is usually one of the busiest of the year.
Dublin and Shannon Airports say they are expecting a 10% increase in passengers compared to the same time last year.
Assistant Garda Commissioner Eddie Rock appeals to drivers to slow down over the August weekend.
Assistant Commissioner Rock stresses that random breath testing will continue.
