Less than half of households have access to Internet

Less than half of Irish households have access to the internet, according to new figures released by the Central Statistics Office today.

Of those that do have a connection, the vast majority are still using dial-up rather than broadband.

The number of households with an Internet connection has more than doubled in the past five years.

Meanwhile, the percentage of mobile phone users also jumped dramatically in the same period to almost 85%.
