HSE publishes terms of inquiry into McElwee case

The Health Service Executive has published the terms of its inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the resignation of childcare expert Niall McElwee from Athlone Institute of Technology.

It emerged last week that the 40-year-old was still working as a college lecturer two years after he had been convicted of a sexual offence in the Netherlands.

The HSE inquiry will be led by the Irish Medical Organisation's former industrial relations director Conal Devine.

The inquiry team will compile a documentation and chronology of what information was in the possession of the HSE from the Gardaí, the Government and Athlone IT.

The HSE's Assistant National Director of Primary, Community and Continuing Care in Dublin/Mid Leinster will then be furnished with the report.
