McKeever heads to Australia in bid to clinch rival record

Record-breaking mountaineer Ian McKeever is setting himself another challenge - scaling Australia's highest peak.

McKeever only recently returned to Ireland after setting a new record for scaling the highest mountains on each of the seven continents in the shortest-ever timescale.

He climbed Carstenz Pyramid in Indonesia as part of the Seven Summits Challenge.

However, due to disagreement over the geographical interpretation of Australasia, a rival challenge also exists, with Mount Kosciuszko in Australia replacing the Carstenz Pyramid.

McKeever is hoping to scale that peak before July 16 to become the first man to hold both records at the same time.
