Shaun Woodward appointed as new Northern Secretary

The new British Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, has today appointed Shaun Woodward as Northern Secretary.

He takes over the job from Peter Hain, who has been given the job of Work and Pensions Secretary in Mr Brown's new cabinet.

Mr Woodward is a previous Under-Secretary of State at the Northern Ireland Office and at the Department of Culture, Media and Sport.
