Dáil set to approve Govt's stamp-duty reforms

The Dáil is expected to approve the Government's proposed stamp-duty reforms later today.

Yesterday, the second stage of the legislation abolishing duties for first-time home-buyers was passed by TDs.

The remaining stages are due to follow a similar process later today before going before the Seanad.

Elsewhere yesterday, a Fine Gael motion calling for the scrapping of the so-called co-location project was also discussed.

Health Minister Mary Harney told the house the proposal is backed by the National Development Finance Agency which cited it as being good value for taxpayers money.

Meanwhile, the Dáil is also due to set about changing the rules today to allow the Taoiseach to appoint 20 junior ministers instead of 17.
