GPs group considers challenging act

A second group of doctors is considering a legal challenge to the Medical Practitioners Act.

The act, which was signed into law earlier this month, provides a new system for regulating the medical profession.

The Association of General Practitioners is reported to have consulted legal advisors over the act, which it believes will reduce the control doctors have over their profession.

The Department of Health is dismissing concerns that the law allows ministers to influence medical ethics.
