Human error to be blamed for CUH cancer misdiagnosis
An internal review by Cork University Hospital is expected to blame human error for the case in which a woman with breast cancer was mistakenly given the all clear.
Rebecca O'Malley, a 41-year-old mother-of-three from Co Tipperary, had to have a breast removed 14 months after the misdiagnosis.
An initial reassessment of 300 other cases has now been narrowed down to just 28 following an analysis of patient charts and tests.
Minister for Health Mary Harney, meanwhile, says she expected to receive a report on the matter from Cork University Hospital before close of business today.
