DPP gets file on Donegal TD's 'brown envelope' claims

Gardaí have forwarded a file to the DPP in relation to claims that a property developer left a brown envelope of cash in the office of a Fianna Fáil TD.

The Gardaí have been investigating the case for some time after being contact by Donegal North East TD Niall Blaney.

The amount of money involved has not been disclosed, but is reported to have been in the region of €2,000.

Mr Blaney says he returned the cash to the developer before reporting the matter to the Gardaí and passing the information to the chairman of the Oireachtas Public Accounts Committee.

Gardaí confirmed today that a file on the matter had been sent to the DPP, who will consider whether charges are warranted.
