Gardaí arrest six over fatal Clonmel house fire

Six people were arrested today by gardaí investigating a house fire in which a woman was killed.

Four men and two women are being questioned about the blaze at Elm Park in Clonmel on Friday.

Anne Marie O’Neill, who was in her 50s, died during the suspected arson attack. Her husband, who escaped through the back door, was injured.

This morning’s arrests follow a raft of searches in the town by local detectives and the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

The six – all in their late 20s or early 30s – are being detained at garda stations in Clonmel, Cahir and Tipperary town.

They are being held under Section 30 of The Offences Against The State Act, a Garda spokesman confirmed.

It is believed the fatal house fire may have started in an outside bin and spread to a parked car, igniting its petrol tank.
