Proposed hauliers protest to gridlock Dublin traffic
A rolling protest by around 1,000 hauliers is set to result in significant traffic delays in Dublin on May 7.
Following a meeting Road Transport Association in the Montague Hotel in Portlaoise yesterday, it was agreed that a convoy will drive “in a slow manner” from the entrance to the Port Tunnel to the Red Cow roundabout.
They will then exit the Red Cow roundabout and drive back along the M50 northbound to Dublin Port. A number of vehicles will also cover the intersections on route.
The meeting was called in response to the implementation of HGV Strategy and what the organisation called “the lack of response from the Government to tackle the haulers concerns over their livelihood”.
The hauliers are demanding that the tolls be lifted on the M50, a proper management structure be put in place that will allow the continuous flow of traffic and a regulator be appointed to the haulage industry, all with immediate effect.
“This protest will be on going for as long as it takes the Government or the relevant authorities to realise the crisis that the HGV strategy has caused the haulage industry,” according to the organisation.
