Man questioned in connection with death by hanging
Police in the North have questioned a man today after his former partner was found hanging at her home.
The body of mother-of-two Rosemary Gormley, 43, was discovered at the terraced house, in Church View, Strabane, Co Tyrone.
Detectives are investigating a possible domestic dispute and claims she had been assaulted before.
Her devastated mother, Mary Gormley, wept today as she said: "We were good friends. I loved her and got on well with her."
A man, aged 45, was arrested and taken away for questioning following last night's discovery.
She had two children, a boy aged four and a girl aged 10. They had been living at Church View for around two and a half years.
One neighbour, who did not want to be named, said the victim had separated from her partner.
"She was a lovely woman, she was from Dunamanagh originally, lived close to the church," he said. "It is an awful tragedy to happen.
"She was a very modest girl, very good looking."
He said the Church View property was closed for forensic examination and added that local people were stunned by the news.
"They said prayers for her in the church today, it is just very sad," he added.
A post mortem examination is to be carried out to determine the cause of death.
Parish priest, Fr Declan Boland, refused to comment on the circumstances surrounding the murder but said he had been comforting the family.
Sinn Féin councillor Jarlath McNulty said: "Neighbours of the deceased whom I have spoken to this morning are in a total state of sock and numbness that the death of this woman, who they describe as being quiet and unassuming, is being treated as suspicious."
