Taoiseach hails NY emergency services

Taoiseach Bertie Ahern has today paid tribute to the emergency services which lost personnel in the Twin Towers following the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York.

Bertie Ahern says enormous pain and grief was felt in Ireland five years ago when many Irish-Americans perished in the atrocities.

During a visit to Ground Zero he said Ireland is proud of the heroic men and women of the police and fire service who battled to save lives when two hijacked passenger planes were flown into the World Trade Centre.
