Former Northern Secretary Peter Mandelson has denied criticising British Prime Minister Tony Blair's handing of the peace process.

In an interview with a British newspaper this morning, Mr Mandelson is quoted as saying Mr Blair was "unreasonable and irresponsible" in offering concessions to Sinn Féin.

The paper also says Mr Mandelson believes Mr Blair "capitulated" to republican demands and alienated unionists as a result.

However, the former Northern Secretary says the comments are blown out of proportion and are not an accurate reflection of his real views.

He says he regards Mr Blair's handing of the peace process as one of his greatest achievements in office.
