Minister for Justice Michael McDowell is reportedly planning to force judges to impose mandatory sentences for drug offences in his new Criminal Justice Bill.

Reports this morning say the legislation, due to be published tomorrow, will eliminate the exceptional circumstances in which judges can decide not to impose the mandatory minimum of 10 years in prison.
