Wexford gardaí threaten walkout over lack of new station
Gardaí in Wexford Town are threatening to hold a walkout in protest over conditions at their local station.
Plans for a new station were unveiled more than two years ago and a site just outside the town was identified for the development.
However, the Office of Public Works has so far failed to acquire the land.
Local gardaí are angry at this lack of action and the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors is due to hold special talks on the issue over the coming weeks.
The threat of a walkout comes as Minister for Justice Michael McDowell opens a newly refurbished garda station today in the nearby town of Oylgate.
