Pensioner dies in Cork hit-and-run

A pedestrian in his 60s died tonight in east Co Cork after he was struck by a vehicle.

Officers from Midleton Garda Station are investigating the collision that occurred at 6.30pm on the Midleton to Youghal Road (N25) at Curragrine, Castlemartyr.

The area has been sealed off for a technical examination and the Garda has appealed for witnesses.

Meanwhile, the Gardaí have asked for assistance from the public in its investigation of a fatal road traffic collision that occurred on Main Street, Arklow at 2am yesterday.

Daniel McDonnell, 21 from Arklow was fatally injured when he was struck by a car.

Local detectives want to speak to anyone who was in the vicinity of Main Street/Lower Main Street between midnight and 3am.
