Preservation order signed for last hiding place of 1916 rebels
Minister for the Environment Dick Roche has signed a preservation order for the building where the leaders of the 1916 Rising were holed up before deciding to surrender.
Number 16 Moore Street has fallen into disrepair in recent years and was under threat due to the development of the area as a new shopping district.
However, heritage campaigners successfully campaigned to rescue it from demolition and Mr Roche today signed an order preserving the building.
It is expected to eventually be transformed into a museum.
