PSNI Chief welcomes Sinn Féin decision on policing

The North's Chief Constable is welcoming the decision by Sinn Féin's national executive to call a meeting of its Ard Fheis on policing.

The decision was made in Dublin last night.

Party president Gerry Adams says their efforts to achieve a 'new beginning' for policing in the North will continue.

Speaking to the BBC, the PSNI's Hugh Orde said he wants all sides to look to the future of the force.

"My officers are interested in policing the present - we're interested in policing the future. Now, the past needs dealing with, but continual references to historic events do not help the debate," he said.

"All we're saying is judge us on what we do now," he said.
