Hit and run cyclist killed
A cyclist aged in his 60s died today after a hit and run road accident in the North.
The man was cycling in the Castle Road area of Randalstown at around 3.15pm when the accident happened.
Police said he had been struck by a white Audi car, later found abandoned near the Ballygrooby roundabout.
Police arrested three men and closed the road in Randalstown overnight while they investigate the scene of the collision involving the cyclist.
He is the fifth person killed on the roads in the North since Friday. A teenager injured in a road traffic accident in east Belfast on Friday has died of his injuries.
David Heaslip, 18, of Ballymiscaw Road, Holywood, was in an accident on the Belmont Road.
Another three young children are also critically ill in hospital after being involved in road accidents.
They include a 10-year-old boy who was knocked down by two cars while walking on Lurgan’s Lough Road. A man was arrested.
Matthew Dagens, 15, died on Saturday after being struck by a car at Downpatrick on Friday.
James McGuigan, 30, and his daughter, Lorna, eight, died in an accident near Crumlin, also on Friday.
Mr McGuigan’s two other daughters, who were also injured in the accident, are still in hospital.
Family priest, Fr Aidan Troy, said Mr McGuigan had been taking his children to their grandmother’s house when the accident happened.
This year, 125 people have been killed in road acidents in the North.
