Filipino ship worker dies in west coast accident

A Filipino man who was seriously injured in an accident on a cargo ship off the west coast earlier this week has lost his fight for life at Limerick's Mid-Western Regional Hospital.

A Filipino man who was seriously injured in an accident on a cargo ship off the west coast earlier this week has lost his fight for life at Limerick's Mid-Western Regional Hospital.

Thirty-seven-year-old Roderick Sol Cruz suffered a fractured skull when he fell off a ladder on Tuesday afternoon while his vessel was off the coast of Co Clare.

He was airlifted to safety by the Coast Guard, but died from his injuries this morning.

Both the Gardaí and the Health and Safety Authority are investigating the incident.
