Teen remanded in garda-attack case
The State has been granted more time to prepare the book of evidence in the case of a 16-year-old boy arrested in connection with the shooting of a Garda sergeant in Dublin in September.
The south Dublin boy is charged with possessing a 12 gauge single barrel breach loading hammer shotgun, contrary to the Firearms Act 1964 and possession of two shotgun cartridges at Monasterboice Road, in Crumlin, on September 27.
He has also been charged with using a stolen car at the same date and place
Judge Miriam Malone was told today that the State was seeking more time to complete the book of evidence in the case which involves two other defendants, an adult and another 16-year-old boy.
She was told the case was extremely complex and over 130 witness statements had been taken.
Judge Malone remanded the boy in custody for a further four weeks pending the preparation of the book of evidence.
She agreed to grant the State more time to prepare the book of evidence saying it was in the interests of justice.
Jurisdiction to hear the case in the Children’s Court was refused earlier and trial on indictment in Dublin Circuit Criminal Court had been ordered.
Another 16-year-old boy, from the west of Ireland and on bail, is also waiting to be served with the book of evidence.
