Another girl seriously injured after fatal Limerick car crash

A 16-year-old girl is dead and her 15-year-old friend is in a critical condition following a road crash in Limerick.

The dead girl - who has not yet been named - was driving when the accident happened at about 6.30am this morning.

A male teenager suffered minor injuries in the collision.

The 16-year-old girl was driving the car that left the road and crashed in to a tree near the front gate of Glenstal Abbey in Murroe.

She died at the scene.

It's understood she had been living at a halting site in Cappamore.

The second girl who is from the city was a back seat passenger in the car.

She remains in a critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit at the Mid West Regional Hospital.

It's believed the three had been attending a party in Murroe and were returning to the village when the crash occurred.
