Conference to examine benefits of political blogging
Politicians, journalists, bloggers and interested members of the public are set to gather at an event in Dublin examining what bloggers can do for politics in the next general election.
The conference, entitled 'Blogging the Election' will take place in the Digital Hub, Dublin this Saturday, October 7.
A blog is a website where entries are made in journal style and displayed in a reverse chronological order. The majority of blogs have comments enabled, allowing anyone to give feedback and interact with other readers of the blog.
Politics website IrishElection.com will be running the event with the support of political commentator Mick Fealty from website SluggerOToole.com, campaigner Suzy Byrne from MamanPoulet.com and internet campaigner Damien Mulley.
Guest speakers on the day include Guido Fawkes, the UK's most read political blogger. Other talks on the day will include a round table discussion from blogging politicians on how blogs are making a difference.
"This conference will show an Irish audience the potential of political blogging and how in other countries blogs have made an impact," said organiser Cian O'Flaherty.
"In a time when people are becoming more disillusioned with the political process, blogs have helped energise public interest by facilitating the easy discussion of issues in society."
