Harney urged to establish nursing home monitoring body

Minister for Health Mary Harney is coming under increasing pressure to establish an independent monitoring body for public and private nursing homes.

The call comes in the wake of a report by the Human Rights Commission which says the worst human rights abuses in Ireland are to be found in long-stay care homes for the elderly.
