GAA fans facing traffic restrictions

Motorists travelling across Dublin were today warned of traffic restrictions on the northside tomorrow as GAA championship matches take place in Croke Park.

Eighty thousand fans are expected to descend on Dublin as Mayo take on Laois and Cork battle Kerry.

Gardaí urged supporters to arrive in good time for the games to help avoid congestion.

There will be two supervised car parking facilities available near the ground at Clonliffe College, Clonliffe Road and O'Connell School, Richmond Street North. Both open at 11am.

No traffic will be permitted to leave the car parks for approximately 45 minutes after the games in order to allow fans walking to leave the area safely.

Gardaí have prepared a route for traffic heading out of the capital to help keep disruption at a minimum.

All match traffic will be diverted away from the port tunnel joining the M50 at the exit near the tunnel entrance.

From here supporters will have the option of taking the motorway to the Ashbourne Road, N2, Navan Road, N3, Lucan Road, N4 and Naas Road N7.

Gardaí also warned that supporters would not be allowed to carry air horns, flares, bottled alcohol or flag poles into Croke Park.

They are also asked to have consideration for local residents and refrain from anti-social behaviour including drinking and urinating in the street.
