CAB freezes land at centre of planning corruption claims

The Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB) is preventing two controversial businessmen from selling a multi-million-euro section of land in south Co Dublin.

The 17 acres of land in Carrickmines belong to Jackson Way Properties, which has been linked to arcade-owner Jim Kennedy and solicitor John Caldwell.

It has been at the centre of investigations by the Mahon Tribunal following claims from former political lobbyist Frank Dunlop that he bribed councillors on the company's behalf.

The land soared in value by €53m after councillors agreed to rezone it from agricultural to industrial use in the 1990s.

The CAB has secured a High Court order preventing the sale of the property after telling the High Court that it believes the increase in value represents the proceeds of corruption and criminality.
