The majority of asylum-seekers who have been granted refugee status in Ireland in the past six years initially had their applications rejected, according to the Irish Refugee Council.

The majority of asylum-seekers who have been granted refugee status in Ireland in the past six years initially had their applications rejected, according to the Irish Refugee Council.

The council says 59% of the 6,814 people granted refugee status since 2000 were only recognised on appeal.
