Households may be allowed fill in census forms online

The Central Statistics Office is reportedly examining the possibility of allowing households to fill out their census details online.

Reports this morning said the online initiative was being considered ahead of the next population count in 2011.

This year's census saw some 4,500 enumerators visiting 1.5 million households across the country to deliver and collect the 24-page census form.

The operation cost €50m.
