NGOs welcome plans for all-party committee on child protection

Four organisations working in the area of child sex abuse held a meeting in Dublin this afternoon to consider the fallout from the Supreme Court ruling in the 'C' case case and new laws on underage sex.

One in Four, CARI, the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre and the Sexual Violence Centre Cork welcomed plans for an all-party committee on child protection.

Following the meeting, the organisations said that any investigation into communication failures between State Agencies should be dealt with separately.

They also called for an expansion of the terms of reference of the committee.

The NGOs claim less than three in every 1,000 sexual offences against children result in a prosecution.
