Nationalists furious at decision to allow controversial march

Nationalists in west Belfast have slammed a decision by the Parades Commission to allow 50 Orangemen to march through their area this weekend.

The Commission has decided to allow the Orangemen to parade down Workman Avenue during Saturday's contentious Whiterock march.

The remainder of the marchers will have to travel via the old Mackies factory site.

Last year, an Orange parade that was allowed to pass through the same area caused more than a week of intense violence.

Police officers were attacked with petrol bombs and blast bombs, as well as live rounds during the trouble.

Nationalists in the Springfield Road area have described the Commission's ruling on this year's march as "shameful", saying the Orange Order is effectively being rewarded for last September's rioting.
