Gardaí examining report into Neary case

Gardaí have confirmed they are examining the report into the number of hysterectomies carried out at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, to determine whether any of its contents require criminal investigation.

Gardaí have confirmed they are examining the report into the number of hysterectomies carried out at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, to determine whether any of its contents require criminal investigation.

The inquiry into the activities of disgraced obstetrician Dr Michael Neary found him guilty of professional misconduct in relation to the number of unnecessary of caesarean hysterectomies he performed.

Health Minister Mary Harney sent a copy of the report to the Garda Commissioner.

Detectives have been investigating the disappearance of a number of files from the Co Louth hospital and are expected to question Dr Neary in the coming weeks.
