The Oireachtas justice committee is due to publish a report today on the murder of Co Louth man Seamus Ludlow by loyalist paramilitaries 30 years ago.

The document is based on seven days of public hearings that the committee has held following publication of the Barron Report on the murder.

Mr Ludlow, a 47-year-old forestry worker, was shot dead near Dundalk in 1976.

It has already emerged that the Gardaí failed to follow up on information about the main suspects provided by the RUC and failed to preserve evidence recovered from the scene.

The Ludlow family is demanding a public inquiry into the killing to discover why a proper investigation was never carried out.
