Contraband cigarettes seized at Dublin Port

Officers from Revenue’s Customs service from Dublin Port today discovered one million contraband cigarettes valued at over €300,000.

Officers from Revenue’s Customs service from Dublin Port today discovered one million contraband cigarettes valued at over €300,000.

The find, which included Superking, Regal and Silk Cut brands, and a Daf truck have been seized.

The cigarettes were found hidden in hollowed out wooden doors which were consigned from Spain.

The potential loss of revenue amounts to €250,000.

A man with an address in Co Westmeath was released after questioning and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The find resulted from risk profiling.
