Gardaí investigating alleged abuse by Clonfert priest

Gardaí and health-board officials are reportedly investigating allegations of child sex abuse against an elderly priest in the Co Galway diocese of Clonfert.

Reports this morning said the complaint was made against a retired priest attached to a foreign diocese who formerly served in Clonfert.

The allegation reportedly relates to the alleged abuse of children in the diocese of Killaloe in the 1970s.

The priest at the centre of the claims is currently receiving care at a psychiatric facility in Dublin.

News of the abuse allegation follows the revelation yesterday that an elderly priest in Clonfert has retired after fathering a child with a 31-year-old woman.
