Labour questions Govt’s handling of Dormant Accounts Fund

The Labour Party has raised questions about the Government's handling of the scheme used to disburse money from untouched bank accounts to social projects across the country.

Community Affairs Minister Eamon O'Cuiv announced the allocation of €24m from the Dormant Accounts Fund today.

However, Labour TD Brian O'Shea said this was less than half the money available and he believed the Government may be deliberately withholding the extra money to spend on pet projects ahead of the election.

"The Government recently approved the allocation of €60m, but at the moment, we're only getting details of €24m of that €60m," he said.

"My concern is that the allocation date will be pushed nearer and nearer the general election day to maximise political advantage."
