Man remanded in custody over bomb find

A 22-year-old man was today remanded in custody in connection with the discovery of a bomb in a car on the M50.

Martin O’Rourke from Sheepmore Grove, Blanchardstown, Dublin, is charged with unlawful possession of explosives and membership of an unlawful organisation.

Gardaí arrested him last Thursday after they found a bomb in the car at the toll bridge, in an incident which closed the motorway.

Wearing a tracksuit, O’Rourke did not speak during the brief hearing today at the Special Criminal Court.

His counsel Anne Rowland said they were not currently in a position to make an application for bail.

O’Rourke was remanded in custody until January 11, 2006.
