Suspected bomb found in car on West-Link toll bridge
Gardaí in Dublin have arrested two men following the discovery of a suspected bomb in a car on the West-Link toll bridge last night.
The home-made device was discovered when armed gardaí stopped the vehicle near the toll booths on the bridge around 10.30pm.
Army bomb disposal experts used a remote-controlled robot to examine the suspect package, but did not need to carry out any controlled explosion.
A spokesman said the device contained black powder, but it had yet to be established if the substance was explosive in nature
Reports this morning, meanwhile, said the object was a lunchbox-type bomb with a timer and may have been constructed by dissident republicans for use by a criminal gang in the Blanchardstown area of Dublin.
A similar device was also found in a car on the M1 motorway in Dublin last month.
