Fine Gael has today accused the Government of failing Irish cancer sufferers with its lack of vision.

The opposition party wants a bowel cancer screening programme introduced, similar to the one brought in by Britain last week.

One in 20 Irish people is affected by the disease in their lifetimes, with the 60-69 age group most at risk.

Deputy Denis Naughton said a screening programme would help with early diagnosis of the disease.
