Gardaí in Co Tipperary are appealing for witnesses after the body of a man was found following a house fire in Clonmel this morning.

They are treating the death as suspicious.

The victim's name hasn't been released yet - but it's understood he'd recently been released from jail.

The body of the 30-year-old was found after a fire was spotted at a house in Hayworth Close in the town at around 5.30 am.

The semi-detached bungalow had apparently been vacant for a while and it appears the fire was confined to the front of the house.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. It seems that he suffered injuries that are inconsistent with death from fire.

Locals say the man lived nearby in a house with his partner and child. The body has been removed to Dublin where a post-mortem is to be carried out.
