Plea over triple death horror crash

Gardaí appealed today for witnesses to last week’s horrific pile-up in Donegal which left three people dead.

Two women, one of whom was in her 70s, and a 50-year-old man died in the crash involving two cars and two motorbikes on the main Ballyshannon to Donegal road which occurred on September 11.

Gardaí said they would particularly like to speak to the occupants of a maroon coloured people carrier type vehicle who may have witnessed the collision.

Officers said the collision happened at Ballymagroarty, Ballintra on the N 15 Ballyshannon-Donegal Road around 6pm.

A number of people were also injured in the incident and wreckage from the smash was strewn along the road for several hundred yards.

Gardaí have asked witnesses to contact Ballyshannon Garda Station in Co Donegal on 071 9851102.

The National Safety Council has confirmed seven people have died in the past seven days – with 266 people killed on the country’s roads so far this year.

The number of fatalities on Irish roads to date this year is down 11 on the same period in 2004.
